Why study at the UAO CEU?

1. Professionalisation

The Universitat Abat Oliba CEU, by means of their Humanities and Education Sciences, offers the courses for obtaining the DECA. This title is adapted to the Spanish Episcopal Conference regulation, and is an act of service to the Church. The purpose of this title is training Catholic Religion teachers. It is to these teachers that, "in addition to the duty of the human, cultural and didactic competence proper to every teacher, belongs the vocation to make it clear that the God of whom they speak in the classrooms is the essential reference point of their life" (Benedict XVI).

Academic coordinator: Ph. D. Josep Maria Manresa, priest. Doctor in Dogmatic Theology from the Pontificia Universidad Gregoriana.

3. Information resources

The Library Service is conceived as a support unit for study and research. Its most important objective is to meet the educative and scientific demands. It has convenient opening hours, including weekends, with the best computer equipment. In addition, the UAO CEU offers to all the University community a vast digital storage, with free access to its publications from its docent, research or institutional activities carried out by teachers, students or former students from the University.

    The mystery of Jesus, the Incarnated Word of God, and his work for man's salvation.
  • Religion, Culture and Values (6 ECTS).
    The mystery of God Almighty, the man's search towards Him, and God's revelation to man.

  • Church, Sacraments and Morals (6 ECTS).
    The Church, the People of God, the celebration of the Christian mystery and Christ's life.

  • Pedagogy and Didactics of the Catholic Religion (6 ECTS).
    How to transmit the Catholic doctrine to children in the different age stages.

This specialisation course provides the degree of the Ecclesiastic Declaration of Academic Competence (DECA) which is required to become a Catholic Religion Teacher in Early Childhood and Primary Education according to the guidelines of the Spanish Episcopal Conference.

Tuition fees correspond, solely and exclusively, to the provision of teaching as part of the programme enrolled on, and this is the only service offered in exchange for the payment of those fees. By enrolling, the student accepts that decisions made by the competent authorities may, directly or indirectly, render it necessary to carry out teaching, tutoring, work placements or assessment tests either in person or via distance learning.

The student accepts that they remain obliged to pay any such fees in full even if, for reasons beyond the control of the University, some of the educational activities included in the degree cannot be carried out as initially provided for in the course guides at the beginning of the academic year. If restrictions are part in place, the University will provide the student with a guarantee that the activity will be rescheduled when possible, taking into consideration the interests of the student and any other applicable academic criteria.

ADMISSION PROFILE

The courses for obtaining the DECA offered by the Universitat Abat Oliba CEU are not only aimed at its own students, but at anyone interested in teaching the Catholic Religion in Early Childhood or Primary Education.

 

OBJECTIVES

  • Training and preparing future school teachers of the religious teachings, in the Early Childhood and Primary Education areas, that grant a quality religious and catholic moral training.
  • Delving deeper into the importance and universality of the Religious Fact in the different cultures, and discovering the connection between Judaism and Christianity, and the originality and specificity of the Christian Religious Fact.
  • Promoting the biblical reading and the good command of the biblical texts: symbols, literary genres, contexts, religious intentionality of the texts.
  • Presenting a basic biblical theology through the big topics in salvation history, and helping understand God's gradual revelation that leads to Jesus, Incarnated Word of God.
  • Discovering the Christian manifestations in our culture.
  • Offering an updated synthesis of the essential contents of the Christian faith.
  • Providing the adequate interaction of faith with the other areas of knowledge.
  • Delving deeper into the moral dimension of the man in light of the Christian message, and considering the education in civic and ethical values from the Christian perspective.
  • Placing and identifying the religious teachings in school from its own peculiarity, in the educational activity as a whole.
  • Studying and identifying the goals, objectives and content of the religious teaching in school, be it in Early Childhood or Primary Education, as well as the relationship it has with other knowledge fields.
  • Preparing our students, pedagogically and educationally speaking, to develop the Religion syllabus in Early Childhood and Primary Education levels.
