Times Higher Education (THE) published the results of its World University Rankings 2021. The publication, which has been running for nearly 20 years, assesses the quality of universities all over the world. In this new edition, CEU Universities rank 6th among Spanish institutions and are in the top 500 worldwide. THE World University Ranking 2021 included 1,527 universities across 93 countries.
Universities around the world are assessed by weighing their performance across 5 areas: teaching; research; number of times their research publications are cited; international staff, students and researchers; and transfer of knowledge to the industry. In total, 13 indicators are measured in these 5 areas. For this edition, survey responses from over 22,000 scholars, among other sources, were analyzed. In terms of research, THE Rankings examined 13.6 million publications and more than 86 million citations over five years sourced from bibliometric data from Elsevier.
In terms of the internationalization of their staff, students and researchers, CEU Universities rank 4th nationally, with the proportion of international students averaging 19% overall and exceeding 30% in the case of CEU UCH in Comunidad Valenciana. CEU Universities are also among the top 10 universities in Spain in such aspects as the staff-to-student ratio (11.5) or the gender ratio in the student population (63:37).
CEU Universities—CEU San Pablo (Madrid), CEU Cardenal Herrera (Valencia, Elche and Castellón) and Abat Oliba CEU (Barcelona)—are part of Fundación Universitaria San Pablo CEU, the largest private educational group in Spain. The group offers education at all levels, from preschool to graduate school.
